Silent Confession – Ch.36.1 – Xin Yi was willing to be his home, but Zhou MuHui did not want it

When Xin Yi squatted in front of Zhou MuHui’s house, he actually didn’t think of too many things.

He just got too tired from looking for him and didn’t know where to go next, or how to find Zhou MuHui, he called Zhou MuHui until he was about to run out of battery, he also sent innumerable texts, but there was not any response.

He started to become scared, began to have messy thoughts, and imagined things; he thought, no matter where Zhou MuHui went, in the end, he probably should be returning home.

Just like Xin Yi, no matter how he gets in trouble outside and how playful he is, he will definitely go back home.

But Xin Yi still didn’t wait until he saw him.

The alley of their house was so quiet that it was scary, Xin Yi sat down on the steps of the door and looked outward blankly; the path under the dim street lights seemed to be compressed into a miniature, and the narrow stone road couldn’t wait for the return the traveler to return home, Xin Yi clenched his phone tightly and lowered his head silently.

He actually is a really stupid little kid, and very cowardly, and cannot bear Zhou MuHui scaring him like this.

When it was three and a half in the morning, a stray cat on the side of the street meowed, followed by his cell phone, There was a rapid ringtone and an unfamiliar phone call.

Xin Yi stared confusedly at the screen as if he had a premonition in his heart, and he hurriedly pressed the answer button.

But he didn’t speak because he heard the familiar breathing from the other party, it was Zhou MuHui, but it made Xin Yi feel a bit aggrieved.

“Xiao Yi, where are you?”

Xin Yi’s tears in big drops; he actually wanted to speak; he wanted to say I am at your home; he wanted to say, where were you gone, I couldn’t find you, I’m very scared, but he wasn’t able to say any of it.

As if something seemed to firmly block him, forcing Xin Yi to remain silent, telling him not to respond to Zhou MuHui.

“Fuck, where did that stray cat come from!”

There was a sound of cursing at the entrance of the alley, the other party’s voice was very loud that they were both startled for a moment; Xin Yi shrank back helplessly and let out a very light, low cry.

Zhou MuHui heard it, His voice suddenly became urgent, telling Xin Yi, “Don’t hang up, wait for me.”

Xin Yi didn’t even have time to refuse, even though he didn’t know why he had this thought,  he heard Zhou MuHui’s heavy breathing and the wind brought up by his running, Xin Yi didn’t know what was wrong with him, it was as if his tears couldn’t be stopped, he suddenly opened his mouth, choked up and called him in a low voice.

“Zhou MuHui…Come quickly.”

His surrender came faster than anything else, Xin Yi thought, never mind, it doesn’t matter.

It’s ok as long as Zhou MuHui is fine.

He had a lot of jumbled thoughts just now, and even hoped that Zhou MuHui just forgot to come to Xin Yi’s house for dinner, as long as nothing happened.

Xin Yi could forgive him.

He noticed the night before he turned twenty years old that he hopelessly liked Zhou MuHui, it turned out that when you like someone, you can’t even bear to be angry for one second, and can’t even bear to say a single bad word to them, The breathing sound on the other side of the electric current was like a moving note, deeply and tightly holding him back.

Xin Yi listened to his reassuring words, to his apology, and just like a little kid, wiped his tears and nodded vigorously.

Under the shadow of the dim street lamp, he came to understand his own heart, and he only wanted Zhou MuHui to be well, he only wanted Zhou Muhui to be safe, and…he wanted to be with Zhou MuHui forever.

“Zhou MuHui… Quickly consider it.”

Xin Yi buried his face in his knees, and opened his mouth soundlessly, “I’m about to be unable to resist it; I want to get married to you.”

That night seemed to be chaotic; Zhou MuHui appeared in front of him covered in sweat, he panted heavily and walked up to Xin Yi, hugged the tear-stained little kid tightly into his arms, and said in a hoarse voice, “I’m sorry, I’m late.”

Xin Yi was unable to speak, and only after seeing Zhou Muhui did he understand what it means to have a weight lifted, his heart was pinched around in someone’s hands over and over again, it wasn’t until this moment that it suddenly fell down.

Zhou MuHui said that there was something impromptu happened, that his mobile phone was lost halfway, Xin Yi cried and nodded, buried in his arms and choked, Zhou MuHui stopped talking halfway through the explanation, lowered his head, and approached him, and said, “Sorry.”

Xin Yi quickly forgave him, Zhou MuHui sent him back home, holding his hand and coaxing him, Xin Yi stood at the door and looked up at him, his tears streaming down the corners of his eyes, which Zhou MuHui carefully and seriously wiped away.

“I am going to be busy lately, Xiao Yi, wait for me for a few more days, okay?”

Zhou MuHui said.

Xin Yi nodded, holding his hand and not letting it go, he said that was fine, that his fathers and mother won’t be angry at him, they are very very nice. He said Zhou MuHui, go about your own business, but if you encounter any difficulty don’t hide it from him, Xin Yi is also very awesome, and won’t become his drag oil bottle1.

Zhou MuHui said yes to all of it, but the little kid didn’t let go of him, his face was messed up with a trail of tears, and he finally choked up and begged him.

“Zhou MuHui, don’t let me be unable to find you, I will be scared.”

He was a chickenshit, he didn’t want to fake being brave anymore.

Xin Yi didn’t see Zhou Muhui much in the following days, Zhou Muhui was very busy, Xin Yi asked him what was the matter, and he just reassured Xin Yi that it was nothing and told him not to worry.

But never mention why he is busy.

When Xin Yi returned home that day he learned that Zhou MuHui already went to his house, and came in a hurry, late at night at midnight, to apologize to his parents.

Xin Shao had a close relationship with him, when he was studying in his teens, Zhou MuHui briefly went to the summer camp he led for a few days. Xin Shao still remembered this teacher-student fellowship and comforted him, saying it was fine, saying that Xin Yi had gone to look for him, and asked him to appease the little kid once he saw him, because Xin Yi was really quite sad.

Xin Yi’s other father, Yu Nanshan, has been sending people to follow Xin Yi, but before he could inform him, Zhou MuHui’s call to Xin Yi was connected.

Xin Yi’s side was very quiet, but almost everybody knew that he was crying, Yu TingYun was burning with anxiety, but Yu NanShan pressed him down tightly, not letting him get angry.

The little kid of their family had untimely precociousness and perseverance, so even though they knew that Zhou Muhui was not a good match, even if they had ten thousand resistance hidden in their hearts, they still tacitly allowed Zhou Muhui to stay by his side.

Because this is the first time Xin Yi liked someone, the first time telling them, he wanted to be with the other party forever, even taking him back home, their kid looked at them so seriously, pulling their hand, pursing his lips, and smiling shyly.

“Dads, mom, I really like him very, very much.”

There were ten thousandths of seriousness in his eyes, so his parents also compromised one after another.

They hope Xin Yi could be happy, and have his own lover and life; they can bear all the winds and rains in the future for him, Xin Yi just had to be happy every day and be that carefree little kid.

He did not need to be like when he was little, worrying about his parents all the time.

Afterward, Xin Yi was never unable to find him again, Zhou MuHui always kept his word.

Although his texts came slowly, he would reply to every single one of them, Xin Yi returned to school, and his contact with Zhou Muhui inevitably decreased, because Zhou MuHui no longer stayed in the store all day.

Xin Yi couldn’t go to find him anytime anymore.

Zhou Muhui was busy until the half of March, and Xin Yi gradually noticed something strange about him, at first he was absent-minded when meeting with him, and later it was the ever-present paleness on his face, he often closed his eyes while talking to Xin Yi, Xin Yi quietly froze, then noticed his extremely thin side face, and looked at him lost in thoughts.

Xin Yi actually noticed a little that something was wrong, because a certain time when he went to the store to find Zhou MuHui, sister Chen said he asked for leave, only occasionally coming for a few days, and later, even directly resigning, he wouldn’t listen no matter how much sister Chen persuaded him.

“Don’t know what happened; when he came, his whole body was covered in dust, even his face was white.” Sister Chen was halfway through then anxiously paused, looked at Xin Yi, wanting to tell him but was hesitant, “Xiao Yi-ah, your brother didn’t want to tell you, surely because he doesn’t want you to be worried, don’t go asking him either, you’re still too young.”

Sister Chen didn’t dare to say anymore, and Xin Yi didn’t continue to ask either; he only nodded blankly and agreed in a low voice, but in a turn of a head, he carried his backpack and went to Zhou MuHui’s house.

It was quiet in the evening, and in early spring hadn’t darkened too quickly, Xin Yi looked inside from the entrance of the alley, and Zhou MuHui’s home was shrouded in shadows, quiet and dim, but it was silent.

Not a soul in sight.

Xin Yi came many days in a row, until a certain day when he saw Zhou MuHui coming out from inside, carrying his fatigued body, quietly pushing open the door.

Xin Yi had never seen him in this desolate state; even his usually firm back slumped a little; Xin Yi was stunned, and hid in the corner to watch him secretly. Zhou Muhui is a very awesome person, but on that day, Xin Yi’s breathing was very heavy and he was also very close to him, but he didn’t notice it at all.

Xin Yi looked at him leaving the house, the back facing him seemed to be bent deeply by some heavy object, and Xin Yi didn’t let go of his breath until a stray cat by the roadside meowed twice, only then did he seem to be awakened suddenly.

But his tears fell along the shortness of his breath.

On a certain day late in the month, Zhou MuHui came out to accompany him, he and Xin Yi sat on chairs under the bridge to chat, Zhou MuHui’s voice became quiet and quieter, then it quietly paused in the next second.

The unfinished end of the sound was carried away by a passing bird, and Xin Yi looked at the side of his half-crooked sleeping face and didn’t speak for a long time.

Is it because something happened at home?

Is that because of his mother?

Xin Yi looked at his pallid profile, and slowly held his hand.

Zhou MuHui was startled awake by him, and instinctively held his hand back, he was stunned, showed a faint smile to Xin Yi, hugged him, and kissed his forehead.

“Zhou MuHui… Are you very tired hm.”

Xin Yi leaned in his embrace and whispered, rubbing the thick calluses and several scratches that suddenly appeared on his palm.

“…No.”

Zhou MuHui kneaded the back of his neck, coaxing him, “It’s nothing, went to sleep  a bit too late yesterday night.”

Xin Yi let out an oh, and didn’t speak anymore, just hugged him like this and did not let go.

After a while, Zhou MuHui wanted to send him back but Xin Yi shook his head in a whisper.

“I agreed with a friend to go read books.”

Xin Yi looked relaxed, raised his head and smiled at him, “I’ll wait for him here for a moment, you go ahead first.”

“I will text you when I get home.”

Zhou MuHui was stunned for a moment, then nodded saying alright.

He staggered when he got up, and Xin Yi’s smile disappeared all of a sudden, but Xin Yi didn’t say a word, just waved at Zhou MuHui as if he didn’t see it.

When the man’s shadow completely disappeared, Xin Yi pursed his lips and followed.

He didn’t want to do anything, or deliberately search for things that Zhou MuHui refused to tell him.

He was only scared, and very worried.

He was very scared…that something would happen to Zhou MuHui.

Notes:

  1. (Derogatory meaning) to remarry and take along her child(ren) from the preceding marriage. Being a burden.

This chapter is 7k long, and I had to cut it into two (most chapters are ~3k).

Sorry for my absence, I was on a business trip and then I was awfully busy with work. My coworkers even had to listen to my rants because I discovered that another manager put me on schedule to do a daily check on something and I was like… they did not tell me??? Why in my dept, only my name is on the schedule?? When I talked to our representant they were like “oh well, we’re all bound to do it” and I was ok alright but then why only my name is on the schedule and not the others while everybody knows that I have to do two share of work already? Anyway, I’m pretty pissed off because of work and I think I’ll be busy for a while…
